ROWING

Cause of injury - acceleration of movement, tensile force.

Most common injuries:

1-Injuries of the lower part of spinal column

2-Sholder girdle and elbow joint injuries

3-Hand joint injuries

TENNIS

Cause of injury - high acceleration and change of direction, slippery playing surface, mechanical contact with the surface, tensile and rotational force while moving and performing a serve, fatigue caused by the duration of the match.

Most common injuries:

1-Ankle joint injuries

2-Knee joint, meniscus and ligament injuries

3-Hamstring and groin muscle injuries

4-Injuries of the abdominal wall and the lower part of the spinal column

5-Sholder girdle and elbow joint injuries

6-Hand joint injuries are less common

ATHLETICS * RUNNING - SHORT AND LONG DISTANCE

Cause of injury - high acceleration of movement, slippery surface, mechanical contact with the surface, the pressure exerted on the joints during contact with the surface, tensile force during finish, in long distance runners - fatigue due to the distance.

Most common injuries:

1-Ankle joint injuries

2-Knee joint, meniscus and ligament injuries

3-Hamstring and groin muscle injuries

4-Injuries of the abdominal wall and the lower part of the spinal column

MARTIAL ARTS - BOXING-JUDO-WRESTLING

Cause of injury - acceleration and change of direction, mechanical contact with the surface or opponent in most cases, the pressure exerted on the joints while gripping or kicking, tensile and rotational force while gripping or kicking.

Most common injuries:

2-Knee joint, meniscus and ligament injuries

3-Hamstring and groin muscle injuries

4-Injuries of the abdominal wall and the lower part of the spinal column

5-Sholder girdle, neck and elbow joint injuries

6-Hand joint injuries are less common
REHAB programs for professional athletes are based on the treatment and prevention during the preparatory and competitive phases of competition. The most common injuries are related to certain sports and there is a prevention and recovery scheme, including the prevention of re-injury (which is a very frequent occurrence in professional sports), for each of them. Consultations with a doctor and the head coach are necessary. If possible, it is necessary to review the test score results of the last tests before the injury (the reason behind this is that the trainer, the athlete and the therapist need to know what to expect in the future, whether 100% recovery is possible, and what the potential for reinjury is).
Periodic tests are obligatory after recovery and they are beneficial for the prevention of reinjury and new injuries. (Any high percentage deviation from the test score results of the athlete’s previous testing may be an indication for a new injury or reinjury).
Example: In certain cases, the lack of proper execution of techniques in a given sport is more than sufficient for injury or reinjury, which injury is often manifested during great physical exertion (competition) or psychological stress.
You can find the REHAB programs designing guidelines for the following sports here.
The most common injuries and tests to be conducted before and after program designing are listed for each sport below.
Recovery requires:

- Recovery of muscle strength, flexibility and endurance

-Recovery of stability of the joint which has been injured or is directly related to the injured muscle.

-Recovery of muscle circumference

-Recovery of the injured joint, range of motion and cartilage

-Check for injury caused scarring and predict its reduction

-Sport-specific testing
